1. Introduction

Talkeo ("we," "us," or "the Company") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal data when you use our AI language learning software platform at talkeo.ai("the Service"). By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account Information:When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and language preferences. If you sign up with Google, we receive your name and email from Google's OAuth service.

Voice and Conversation Data: During practice sessions, your voice audio is processed in real-time by our speech recognition provider to convert speech to text. Audio is streamed and processed in real-time. We do not store raw audio recordings. Conversation transcripts and AI-generated learning data (such as detected errors, vocabulary notes, and progress markers) are stored to personalize your experience across sessions.

Usage Data: We collect session metadata including duration, number of interactions, timestamps, detected language level, and feature usage. This data helps us improve the Service and monitor system performance.

Payment Information: Payment details (credit card numbers, billing address) are collected and processed directly by our third-party payment provider. We do not store your full payment card details on our servers. We receive only transaction confirmation data (subscription status, billing dates, plan type).

Device and Technical Data: We automatically collect your IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, and approximate geographic location (country level, derived from IP address) for analytics, security, and service optimization.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • Provide the Service: Process your voice input, generate AI responses, and deliver personalized practice sessions.
  • Personalization: Store learning memories, track progress, adapt difficulty level, and maintain continuity across sessions.
  • Billing: Process subscription payments, manage plan upgrades/downgrades, and handle refund requests.
  • Communication: Send service-related emails (account confirmation, billing receipts, important updates). We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
  • Analytics and Improvement: Analyze aggregate usage patterns to improve our AI models, user experience, and system performance.
  • Security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
  • Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities.

4. Voice Data Processing

Voice data is a core part of the Service and we treat it with special care:

  • Real-time processing only: Voice audio is streamed to our speech recognition provider, converted to text, and discarded. Raw audio is not stored on our servers.
  • Transcripts are stored: Text transcripts of conversations are retained to power the memory and personalization features of the Service.
  • AI-generated data: The AI generates learning notes (such as detected errors and progress markers) that are stored in your profile to improve future sessions.
  • No voice biometrics: We do not use your voice data for identification, profiling, or biometric purposes.

You may request deletion of all your conversation data at any time by contacting founders@talkeo.ai.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services to operate the platform. Each processes data only as necessary to provide their specific function:

  • Supabase: Database hosting and user authentication
  • LiveKit: Real-time audio/video routing (WebRTC)
  • Soniox: Speech-to-text processing
  • Google (Gemini): AI language model for generating responses
  • Fish Audio: Text-to-speech voice synthesis
  • Vercel: Web application hosting and analytics
  • Fly.io: Backend infrastructure hosting

Each provider operates under its own privacy policy and data processing terms. We select providers that maintain appropriate security standards and limit data processing to what is necessary for the Service.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties. We share data only in the following circumstances:

  • With the third-party service providers listed above, solely to operate the Service
  • When required by law, regulation, or valid legal process
  • To protect the rights, safety, or property of Talkeo, our users, or the public
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with prior notice to users)

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specifically:

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
  • Conversation transcripts and learning data: Retained while your account is active to power personalization. Deleted upon account deletion or upon request.
  • Usage analytics: Aggregated and anonymized data may be retained indefinitely for service improvement.
  • Billing records: Retained for up to 7 years as required by tax and financial regulations.
  • Anonymous demo data: Data from anonymous demo sessions is automatically deleted after 30 days.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Data Portability: Request an export of your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to certain processing of your data.
  • Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States, where our infrastructure providers are located. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international data transfers, including the use of service providers that maintain industry-standard security practices.

10. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), secure authentication mechanisms, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Cookies

We use cookies solely for authentication (to keep you logged in) and essential service functionality. We use Vercel Analytics for aggregate, privacy-friendly website analytics. This does not use cookies and does not track individual users across sites. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

12. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at founders@talkeo.ai and we will promptly delete the data.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a prominent notice on the Service at least 15 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
